Summer Training & Throwing Schedules

If you have any question regarding the schedules call Coach Hutch.  All players need to follow this training schedule to prepare for the fall baseball semester.

Your player folder must be turned in to Coach Mac during the first team meeting.

Players should begin the strength training program listed below ASAP.

Summer Strength Training Sheets - Weeks 1-10:  See the tabs at the bottom of the sheet for each week.  Players should print each weeks workout sheet and fill in the required information as they complete the workouts.  Its desired that players complete 10 weeks if possible.  If you joined the program after June complete as many weeks as you can starting with week #1.

Pitchers should begin the throwing program listed below on June 23rd.

Pitchers Summer Throwing Program - You will need to make sure your arm is in great throwing shape.  Each pitcher will throw a 50 pitch bullpen on the first day of practice (August 15th or 16th).  You will have 3 days rest then throw another 50 pitch bullpen.  If the coaches feel you have prepared your arm well over the summer then you will throw in an intrasquad game on August 28th-30th.  If you have not prepared your arm for these bullpens then you will be placed on a coach monitored throwing program for 2 weeks and try again.

Pitcher Early Fall Bullpen Schedule

Position players should begin the throwing program listed below on June 30th.

Position Player Summer Throwing Program - You will need to make sure your arm is in great throwing shape.  Position player will be given a velocity test on their arm strength during the first practice.  This will be followed be a regimented throwing routine during each practice to test your arms throwing condition.  If you haven't conditioned your throwing arm for this you will not participate in intrasquad games.  You will be placed on a coach monitored throwing program for 2 weeks and try again.

Players should begin the conditioning program listed below on July 8th.

Summer Conditioning Sheets - Weeks 1-5:  Players should print this sheet and fill in the required information as they complete the running.  Players are expected to complete every week.

Stretching: It is very important that you stretch daily.  We will introduce players to our stretching routine when they arrive, until then you should complete a good stretching routine every day.

Players need to consider the following when training during the summer.

  1. Strength Training: We will be max load testing you during the first week.  Follow the strength routine we have designed, it will prepare you for the fall season and it will improve your strength the way that you need for baseball.  Baseball strength must be functional  and dynamic.

  2. Conditioning: Players are expected to be well conditioned when they report to fall practice but it is not recommended that you perform much distance running.  If you want to run 2-3 miles once a week it would be okay, but do not exceed that.  The summer is hot and it drains your strength for lifting and throwing.  You also lose a lot of weight running in the heat.  Sprint Conditioning - this type of conditioning is more valuable for a baseball player.  Players need to focus on their ability to run full speed for 30-60 yards with very shorts breaks in between.  You also need to do some running in the heat to get your body ready for practicing in the heat.

  3. Arm Strength and Conditioning:  It is important that players develop arm strength over the summer by throwing hard and at a great distance.  It is also very important to develop throwing conditioning before you arrive in the fall.  Each individual player will be able to improve their arm strength as they throw and all players need to be able to throw for an extended time without arm fatigue.  Each player needs to condition their arm so making a lot of throws almost everyday doesn't cause arm soreness.
