"I cannot think of a single field in biology or medicine in which we can claim genuine understanding, and it seems to me the more we learn about living creatures, especially ourselves, the stranger life becomes."... Lewis Thomas

Briefly about Me

The button below will take you to another page that will provide you with a brief summary of my teaching philosophy, educational background and work in higher education.

Curriculum Vitae

I started my started my academic career in Delaware. I always enjoyed learning and as a youngster I wanted to either teach or do something with animals....like most budding biologists. In college I had the opportunity and great pleasure to work in a research laboratory. So beginning in my sophomore year and continuing through till graduation I worked in a microbial ecology laboratory conducting my own experiments under the supervison of my advisor. I loved it and thought I had found my true calling. Although I am not active in biological research at the present time, I still enjoy working in the lab and introducing students to the challenges, frustrations, and joys of lab work. My CV is included here if you would like further information on my professional history.

CV

Welcome to My Web Page

I have always been interested in biology and its many subdisciplines. My research background and work experience are pretty diverse. I have worked in research labs examining human adenocarcinoma, cytoskeletal components of brushborder cells, sugar transport in avocado and nitrogen metabolism in cyanobacteria. I am also very interested in how students learn, particularly in techniques that enhance student learning and in how we measure student learning.

I have worked in higher education for a number of years in various capacities and truly enjoy my time in the classroom working with students exploring biology. Currently, I am serving as the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences (interim). I am also the President-Elect for the National Association of Biology Teachers, the "leader in life science education" representing biology teachers and educators in the K-20 continuum from around the world.
