I am especially pleased to award high grades to those papers that demonstrate
(in order) strong organization (ie
attention to thesis and follow-through examples),
creativity (ie original thought,
interesting examples, superb use of language like metaphor/simile, allusion,
title, et al, grammar (subject-verb
agreement, complete sentences not fragments or run-on, proper citations, et al,
and finally a command of stylistic
conventions (like voice/style, sentence variation, awareness of audience).
Each essay assignment will come with multiple topic choices for you to choose
and a rubric/checklist. What is a rubric? Good question. See
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubric_(academic)
for more information.
